Adam Karol Czartoryski

His Serene Highness Prince Adam Karol Czartoryski (born 1940) is the creator of the Princes Czartoryski Foundation, patron of arts and Knight of Malta. A great-great-grandson of Infanta Luisa Fernanda, Duchess of Montpensier, the youngest daughter of king Ferdinand VII of Spain and his fourth wife Maria Christina of Sicily, the queen-regent.

Adam was born in Spain as a son of Polish Prince Augustyn Józef Czartoryski and Spanish Princess Maria de los Dolores of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (daughter of Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies), in exile because the political changes in Poland. He was educated in Spain and then in England and remained outside of the People's Republic of Poland until the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989.

In 1991 the High Court of the Nation returned to Prince Adam Karol the Czartoryski Museum and Library with all its contents. He created the Princes Czartoryski Foundation to run, organize, and administer the new life of the Museum Collection.

In recognition for this he was decorated with the Cross of Knight Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta by President Lech Wałęsa.

In 1992 he was involved and responsible for the Polish Pavilion during the Universal EXPO in Seville, Spain.

He is great-grandson of Władysław Czartoryski and first cousin of Juan Carlos I, the reigning King of Spain.
