Blackstrap is a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1997.

Geography

The riding includes the southeast quadrant of Saskatoon and extends south to Elbow southeast to Bladworth and east to Jansen.

History

The electoral district was created in 1996 from Mackenzie, Moose Jaw—Lake Centre, Saskatoon—Dundurn and Saskatoon—Humboldt ridings.

Members of Parliament

This riding has elected the following members of the Canadian House of Commons:

* 1997-2000: Allan Kerpan - Reform (1993-2000), Canadian Alliance (2000)
* 2000-present: Lynne Yelich - Canadian Alliance (2000-2003), Conservative (2003-present)

Current Member of Parliament

The current Member of Parliament is Lynne Yelich, a former administrator and executive assistant. She was first elected in 2000. She was re-elected in 2004 and 2006. She represents the Conservative Party of Canada. Lynne currently serves as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. She is also a member of the Standing Committee on Human Resources and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities [http://cmte.parl.gc.ca/cmte/CommitteeHome.aspx?Lang=1&PARLSES=391&JNT=0&SELID=e17_&COM=10478 (HUMA)] . During her Parliamentary tenure, Lynne has served on the Citizenship & Immigration, Transport, Government Operations & Estimates, and Status of Women committees. She has also served as Critic for Women Entrepreneurs, Families and Caregivers, Status of Women, Cities, and Grain Transportation.
