Small blue round cell tumours

Small blue round cell tumours

Small blue round cell tumours is a heterogeneous group of malignant neoplasms. These tumors tend to occur in childhood and are very similar in their histologic appearance. Typically, in histopathologic examination they are undifferentiated, uniform, small round cells with big, hyperchromatic nuclei; hence the name of this group of tumors (hyperchromatic nuclei contain big amounts of DNA, which is dark blue in H-E stain).

Tumors that belong to this group are:
* desmoplastic small round blue cell tumor
* Ewing's Sarcoma/PNET
* neuroblastoma
* rhabdomyosarcoma
* Wilms' tumor
* retinoblastoma
