Yumbe District

Yumbe is a district since 2001, in northern Uganda. Like other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town'. It borders Southern Sudan. it has a population of 253.325 in 2002.The population is mainly (80%) Muslim, which is a big exception for Uganda. 80% of Uganda are Christians.The population of Yumbe is still suffering from the results of the civil war, which lasted about 20 years. The peace agreement between UNRF2 and the Government was signed in the year 2000 in Yumbe. Never the less the developing progress is still going on and most of the population is living under the poverty line, but the birth rate is above average with 7 children per woman.
