Tim Reynolds (born December 15, 1957 in Wiesbaden, Germany)cite web|url=http://www.timreynolds.com/biography/|title=Tim Reynolds - Biography|accessdate=2008-08-12|publisher=Tim Reynolds] is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. Founding member of the band TR3, he has frequently guested with the Dave Matthews Band and has played several tours with Dave Matthews as an acoustic duo, and also as a member of Dave Matthews & Friends. In 2008, Reynolds joined Dave Matthews Band on their summer tour.

Personal life

Reynolds has one daughter, Eura (born 1995) a son, Josef (born February 1982) and a stepson, Jostin (born October 1987). He currently resides in North Carolina.

Musical collaborations

Reynolds has played with and collaborated with many well known and lesser known artists, including:

Dave Matthews

Reynolds explains that he was playing in Charlottesville, VA in the late 1980s when his old college roommate, Nic Cappon, encouraged him to perform at the local bar "Miller's" and meet the growingly musically respected bartender, David Matthews.cite web |url=http://antsmarching.org/bios/DaveMatthews.php |title=Antsmarching.org - Dave Matthews bio |accessdate=2008-08-12 |work= |publisher=Antsmarching.org ] He reflected:

"I played there (Miller's in Charlottesville) all the time. Dave Matthews was the bartender. I knew the rest of the band way before that. We played together in Charlottesville since I moved there in 1981. I would play with LeRoi Moore and Carter Beauford. Dave moved to town in 1987. When the Dave Matthews Band started (1991), I already had my own band (TR3). I told him (Dave Matthews), “I've got a band and I kind of like the way it is. You should start your band.” I could see that he needed to do his own thing."

In 1993, Reynolds and Dave Matthews started playing a few one-off acoustic duo sets. These sets featured Matthews's music, stripped down to just the acoustic guitar with Reynolds' guitar complementing his songs. During these sets, Reynolds would normally play between one to four of his own pieces, usually two, that spanned his own catalogue of work. After a few years these shows gained popularity, and in 1996 Matthews and Reynolds embarked on their first full US tour together as a duo. In 1999, coinciding with a massive 40 date US tour, "Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds - Live at Luther College" was released. [cite web|url=http://antsmarching.org/tour/tourindex.php?tourid=47|title=Date and Tim 1999|publisher=Antsmarching.org|accessdate=2008-08-12] This album saw the world-wide release of Reynolds' solo composition, "Stream," from his album of the same name.

After a short break, and following many unfounded and incorrect rumors of a falling out between them, Reynolds toured again with Matthews as a duo in 2003. Reynolds and Matthews then reprised their duo shows as an opening act for the Dave Matthews & Friends tour in 2003 and early 2004. They played several shows together in 2006 and 2007. Reynolds joined Matthews on a mini-tour of Europe in February and March 2007. On August 14, 2007, Matthews and Reynolds released a live two CD / DVD set, Live at Radio City, featuring such tracks as "Stay or Leave", "Gravedigger", "Cornbread", and "Dancing Nancies". It also includes two of Reynolds' own songs: "You are My Sanity" and "Betrayal". In 2008, Reynolds once again joined with Dave Matthews Band for the recording of their as-of-yet untitled album with producer Rob Cavallo. It is Reynolds' first appearance in the studio with Matthews since 2003's "Some Devil" and his first with Dave Matthews Band since 1998's "Before These Crowded Streets". On April 2, 2008, Reynolds and Matthews announced that they would be performing a one-night acoustic concert at the Assembly Hall at Indiana University in support of Democratic Party (United States) presidential candidate Barack Obama. Tickets were available on a first come-first served basis to any Indiana resident with a photo ID. On April 11, 2008, Tim Reynolds joined Dave Matthews for an acoustic performance that lasted two hours during the "Seeds of Compassion" show in Seattle, Washington. The evening started with Dave Matthews having a conversation with the Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama) and television journalist Ann Curry in which the message of love and peace was spread. On April 19 and April 20, 2008, Tim Reynolds joined Dave Matthews on stage at Jack Johnson's Kokua Festival at the Waikiki Shell on the island of O'ahu, in Honolulu, Hawai'i. In a May 2008 email from DMB's fan club (Warehouse), it was announced that Reynolds would be touring with the band for the entire 2008 summer tour. This created buzz and excitement in the fan community since Reynolds had not toured with DMB in many years. cite web |url=http://antsmarching.org/story.php?NewsID=643 |title=Source: Tim Reynolds on for entire tour |accessdate=2008-08-12 |work= |publisher=Antsmarching.org |date=2008-05-12 ] Notable guests during past Reynolds and Matthews shows included:

Dave Matthews & Friends

Following the release of Dave Matthews' first solo album, "Some Devil", Matthews brought together many of the album's collaborators and embarked on a small winter '03 / '04 US tour. The group consisted of Trey Anastasio (of Phish) on guitar, Brady Blade on drums, Tony Hall on bass, Ray Paczkowski on keys, and Reynolds on guitar. [cite web|url=http://dmbalmanac.com/TourGuestInfo.aspx?tid=76&where=2003|title=DMBAlmanac|accessdate=2008-08-12] Each show opened with a small acoustic Matthews and Reynolds set, and then followed with the full band set with Reynolds taking on his electric guitar. Most of Some Devil was played live that tour, along with a wide variety of covers, including, by Reynolds' request, Peter Gabriel's hit "Solsbury Hill".

Though the tour was short-lived, Dave Matthews & Friends made a surprise one-off appearance at the Showbox in Seattle, Washington, on 2004-11-13, sans Trey Anastasio. Filling Trey's shoes for a few songs, however, was Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Dave Matthews & Friends played the 2004 edition of Bonnaroo [cite web|url=http://www.ascap.com/eventsawards/events/bonnaroo/|title=2004 Bonnaroo Music Festival|publisher=ASCAP|date=2004|accessdate=2008-08-12] , and headlined the inaugural Vegoose festival in Las Vegas on October 30, 2005 [cite web|url=http://antsmarching.org/tour/ViewShow.php?ShowID=3568|title=Dave Matthews and Friends - October 29, 2005|publisher=Antsmarching.org|accessdate=2008-08-12] . While in Vegas, Matthews and Reynolds played an acoustic show at the Aladdin casino, followed by a performance by Trey Anastasio's 70 Volt Parade.

In February 2006, Dave Matthews & Friends headlined a multi-band Caribbean cruise [cite web|url=http://cruise.davematthewsband.com/|title=Dave Matthews & Friends Cruise|publisher=Dave Matthews and Friends|accessdate=2008-08-12] .

Taping / Trading Policy

Tim Reynolds has an open taping policy. This policy also extends to TR3. The following statement is taken from Tim's Official Website: [cite web|url=http://timreynolds.com/taping_policy/|title=Taping Policy|publisher=Tim Reynolds|accessdate=2008-08-12]

Tim Reynolds and TR3 allow audio and video taping at almost every live performance. Tim has an amazing talent for improvization and no two shows are the same. Taping allows fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any location in the venue that doesn't obstruct the view of others or in areas designated by the venue for taping. Soundboard feeds are sometimes avaliable, but are in no way guaranteed.

Tim himself allows taping, however, some venues do not. If a venue doesn't allow taping there is nothing Tim can do. The venue has final say on taping. If you are planning to tape a show you must contact the venue ahead of time to make sure taping is permitted.

All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. All audio and video performances belong to Tim Reynolds / TR3 and are not available for promotional use without explicit prior written consent. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal and will jeopardize taping privileges for everyone.

For a nice overview of how to approach soundmen about taping and what to bring, you should check out "Bands That Allow Taping" at http://btat.wagnerone.com/ There is a great section about the bottom of the page by Joe the soundman in Blacksburg VA on proper ettiquette and things you may need. This list of course varies from venue to venue depending on equipment. That is why it is a good idea to contact the venue well before the show and make sure you have the right equipment. Special Thanx to Mike Wagner for including us and providing this reference.
