Evergreen High School, located in Vancouver,
Washington . Founded in the mid1950's , Evergreen was the firsthigh school in the Evergreen School District. As of2006 it has about 2200 students. Their mascot is the Plainsmen. It has had many great state championship teams throughout its history, including men'sbasketball in1995 and football in2004 .In
2007 , Tom Smythe, a football coach who won three state championships inOregon , became the head coach of the Evergreen Plainsmen.Evergreen was jokingly called "Ghetto-Green" by other rival high schools in the Evergreen School District before the reconstruction project, which took place during 2005-2007.
Evergreen is home to one of the best marching bands in Washington state, the Evergreen Marching Band (EMB). Directors, Steve Kuske and Danny Orrantia are dedicated to the improvement and growth of the program.
2004 Football State Championship
In 2004, the Evergreen High School Football Team made history by becoming the first large school team from Southwest Washington to make a state championship game. After falling behind early 14-0 to Skyline, the Plainsmen rallied to win the game. Running back Taylor Rank stood out for the Plainsmen all year rushing for 2,013 yards and 33 touchdowns. This game was no exception for Rank. He carried the ball 28 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns.Rank is currently playing football at South Carolina. Other alumni playing Division 1 football are Greg Peach (Eastern Washington) and Lonnie Hosley (Eastern Washington). Defensive End Greg Peach was recently named 1st Team All-Big Sky.
