North Madison is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,451 at the 2000 census.

Geography

North Madison is located at 41°49′55″N 81°3′28″W / 41.83194°N 81.05778°W / 41.83194; -81.05778 (41.832044, -81.057826)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.0 square miles (10 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 8,451 people, 3,077 households, and 2,316 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,107.7 people per square mile (813.7/km²). There were 3,418 housing units at an average density of 852.5/sq mi (329.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.09% White, 0.12% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.42% of the population. 18.3% were of German, 13.7% Irish, 12.9% American, 12.0% Italian, 8.4% English, 5.6% Polish and 5.1% Slovene ancestry according to Census 2000.

There were 3,077 households out of which 39.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.15.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $44,535, and the median income for a family was $48,709. Males had a median income of $40,207 versus $23,689 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $18,473. About 4.8% of families and 5.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.4% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.
