BRBF

BRBF

A BRBF or Buckling-Restrained Braced Frame is an element used in steel frames to resist lateral loads on the frame. A BRBF is a special case of a concentrically braced frame. Advantages of a BRBF over other concentrically braced frames is that they exhibit higher ductility and energy dissipation. These qualities come from their design. A BRBF consists of a steel core surrounded by a case and then grouted with a specialized mortar. The encasing and mortar prohibit the brace from buckling when in compression. Thus preventing strength loss and allowing for better cyclic performance. These braces are located diagonally in bays throughout a structure to counteract lateral loads caused by wind or earthquakes. Other common systems to resist lateral loads include

·MRF or Moment Resisting Frames

·EBF or Eccentrically Braced Frames

·CBF or Concentrically Braced Frames
