Central Ayrshire is a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was formed in 2005 from parts of the old Ayr, Cunninghame South and Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley constituencies.

An earlier constituency of the same name had existed from 1950 until 1983.

Boundaries

This new constituency is centred on the historic burgh of Irvine, designated in the 1970s as a Glasgow overspill new town. Prestwick, site of the airport, and Troon on the coast are also included. The seat extends to the east and south up against the suburbs of Ayr.

As created in 1950 the constituency merged together parts of Bute and Northern Ayrshire and Kilmarnock (UK Parliament constituency). Part of the constituency was returned to Kilmarnock in 1955.

When abolished in 1983 the constituency was largely replaced by Cunninghame South.
