Boliburguesía

Boliburguesía

Boliburguesía ( _en. Bolibourgeoisie, a portmaneau of the words "Bolivarian" and "Bourgeoisie") was a term coined by Domingo Alberto Rangel, in his column “Correo del Caroní”, on April 20, 2006, decribing the new bourgeois created by the Venezuelan government of Hugo Chavez and Chavismo. The term has gained wide use among critics of the Bolivarian Revolution.

The Bolibourgeoise has been criticized for their eccentricities, buying luxury Hummers whilst supporting a revolution with a socialist society as its aim. The scandal known as the Maletinazo also generated criticism, in which the government of Hugo Chavez was alledged to be sending state oil money from PDVSA to finance the political campaign of now president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
