Extreme Transaction Processing

Extreme Transaction Processing

Extreme Transaction Processing (XTP) is an exceptionally demanding form of transaction processing. Transactions of 10,000 concurrent accesses (500 transaction per second) or more would require this form of processing.

Description

XTP applications are designed, developed, deployed, managed, and maintained on computer clusters and/or distributed grid computing networks. As a result, XTP applications feature vast improvements in:

* performance
* scalability
* availability
* security
* manageability
* dependability

These applications generate orders of magnitude more transactions than those created by traditional transaction processing systems because of their wider (often multi-enterprise, national and global) reach.

Methodology

Implementations

Hardware and software infrastructure vendors and service providers that are accumulating the sophisticated technology and skills needed to address this emerging need are finding XTP applications to be a lucrative and growing business opportunity. Jive Software's Clearspace application, for example, is built around Oracle Corporation's Coherence software, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware which supports XTP, in an attempt to overhaul the status quo for traditional transaction processing. Another example is WareLites real time Demand chain management based on WL-BOSS (a grid-based event driven application platform for XTP).
