Shock humour

Shock humour

Shock humor is a style of comedy intended to shock the audience. This can be achieved through excessively foul toilet humor, mocking of serious themes (a.k.a black comedy), or through tactlessness in the aftermath of a crisis (e.g. 9/11). Canadian comedian Tom Green is a prime example of a shock humorist. His 2001 film Freddy Got Fingered appalled critics with its derision of themes including child molestation and sadomasochism, as well as the script's abrasive, sometimes disturbing visual comedy, such as a scene where the main character, played by Green, swings a baby by its umbilical cord in a maternity wing, spraying the new mother with her own blood.
