History

WQNY was the flagship station of the Rural Radio Network (having replaced the station now known as WYXL) and signed on June 6, 1948 as WVFC. WVFC (later WEIV) served as flagship of the network from 1948 to 1981, when the network split up. On 1982-12-21, the station changed its call sign to the current WQNY. WQNY is the most popular station in the Ithaca market, according to Arbitron ratings, and is thus the most commercially successful of the former Rural Radio Network stations.
