Stockton South is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Boundaries

Stockton South consists of the south-western half of Stockton-on-Tees and the nearby towns of Thornaby-on-Tees, Yarm, Ingleby Barwick and Eaglescliffe. More middle-class than neighbouring Stockton North, the former SDP-Liberal Alliance first held the seat very narrowly on its creation in 1983, before the Conservatives gained and held it for the next ten years. Labour's landslide got them in here in 1997 and they have retained it since. This seat is still considered marginal and is a Conservative target at the likely 2009/10 General Election.Fact|date=April 2007 Former Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan spent time here as an MP and was raised to the peerage as the Earl of Stockton.
