Developments

According to research conducted by Professor Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher, Cleethorpes will be Conservative target number 58 at the next General Election and Labour's 55th most vulnerable seat, requiring a 3.03% swing for it to change hands. It is the Liberal Democrats' 477th target.

The Conservative Party selected its parliamentary candidate in an 'open primary' on Wednesday 8 November. Applications were open to any member of the Conservative Party's priority list of approved candidates and to members of the standard list of approved candidates who claimed a local connection.

The two candidates in the final were Martin Vickers and Alan Lockwood. Martin Vickers won the selection in front of 100-130 people at Cleethorpes Constitutional Club.

Vickers is a councillor in Grimsby and fought the seat at the last General Election. He works as constituency agent to Edward Leigh MP and was not on the priority list.
