Central Radio is a commercial radio station in the United Kingdom. The station was awarded a licence to service the Preston, Leyland and Chorley conurbation, under the working name of Proud FM on 7 December, 2006, and launched on 25 September, [2008] . The use of the name Proud coming from "Proud Preston" on Preston city shield.

The station changed its name to "Central Radio" in order to better reflect the entirety of the broadcast area, locally known as Central Lancashire, rather than Preston.http://www.centralradio.fm/central_namechange.pdf]

The station promises to broadcast a wide variety of popular music, particularly songs that fall under the mainstream rock genres, from the 1960s to the present day. The station is managed by Paul Jordan who presented the breakfast show on Rock FM in the 1990s, and is owned by UTV Radio who operate neighbouring stations Radio Wave 96.5 in Blackpool and The Fylde, Wish FM in Wigan and St Helens as well as Wire FM in Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn.

Their transmitter is sited on Bee Lane in the Penwortham area of Preston and uses 100 watts in the vertical plane and 33 watts in the horizontal.

Central commenced test transmissions using 106.5 on 1 September, 2008. The idea of using a separate frequency of 96.3 for Chorley and Leyland seems to have been dropped despite the reception of 106.5 in Chorley currently being quite patchy in places.

Central Radio launched on Thursday 25th September at 7am. It's line up includes:

Breakfast - Mark Keen & Anna Woolhouse, Mid Mornings - Chris Buckley, Drive Time - Kim Shaw, Evenings - Aaron Roscoe, Lates - Jon Holling

and weekend shows with Mark Blackman and former Coronation Street actor Scott Wright.
