There are virtually no businesses in the town. You can live there relatively inexpensively as just about any purchase you need to make can be made in one of the adjoining towns.Interesting Fairview Facts:Existing businesses pay a Multnomah County TriMet (Mass Transit Tax) Per Capita, Employers pay 4 times as much based on accessability to the transit system, as do other adjoining cities.A full 42 percent of the land in Fairview is tax exempt, either by greenspace and parks, city owned space, or church property.Gasoline is priced, on average, 8% more (at the two gas stations) than stations in nearby cities.Because of the lack of business, residents commute an aveage of 6.8 miles further than residents of neighboring cities. The murder rate in Fairview is 200% higher than the rate for the neighboring city of Wood Village. (And Wood Village doesn't even have a police department!City studies show that only 1 of 9200 residents actually live and work in Fairview. The city website even confirms there are no employment opportunities anywhere in the city. There IS NO major grocery store, medical facility (hospital, medical office, or dentist), fire station, auto repair or auto parts store, office supply store, fast food outlet, barber shop, hotel or motel, theater, sports facility, or enclosed meeting space for more than 100 persons! There IS a mini mart, two gas stations, a car wash, post office, coffee shop, waste debris recycling facility, boat wrecking yard, barkdust supply yard, and sports bar.

Safety should not be any concern, if you need an officer, just drive to the parking lot in Wood Village and you should be able to find one reading a Louis Lamour novel. To get to Fairview, just exit I-84 from the east or west, take Fairview Parkway to Fairview Avenue. You can then drive North to Fairview Lake Way and back to Fairview Avenue. As long as you are on a street named Fairview, you are still there. Be sure to visit the many sights and sounds of Fairview. All Wood recycling provides a breath of fresh air from the east (usually there is a 30 to 50 mile per hour east wind), the Gresham Sewer Treatment facility is a sweet smell on the warm afternoons when the west breeze blows. Late at night numerous skunks lie dismembered on any of the streets named for Fairview. You can't miss them, i've tried...
