Gameplay
"Time Hollow" follows the story of Ethan
Kairos and the mysterious disappearance of his entire family. As Ethan searches for his family he comes across a Hollow Pen, an uncanny object with the unique power to open portals to the past. This allows Ethan to change the past in order to solve problems in the present. Through the use of this mystical pen he must follow events in the present and past to locate his missing family.List of characters

Main characters
*Ethan Kairos/Horou Tokio (時尾 歩郎)The main character of Time Hollow, a normal high school student who lives with his family. On the morning of his seventeenth birthday, he discovered that the world had changed into one where his parents went missing 12 years ago. In order to solve this mystery, he takes up the Hollow Pen, which has the power to change history. As it turns out it is Ethan who leaves the Hollow Pen on Sox so that his past self can obtain the pen and therefore alter the past until he catches up to the present.
Ethan's Japanese name is a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the word 'hollow' as well as on 'time corridor' (toki no horou).
*Timothy Kairos/Wataru Tokio (時尾 亘)Father of Ethan. At his son's 17th birthday, both he and his wife disappeared. He looks older than he is supposed to be, most likely because of his usage of the Hollow Pen before he passed it down to Ethan.
Timothy's Japanese name means 'to cross time' (toki o wataru).
*Pamela Kairos/Aki Tokio (時尾 秋)Mother of Ethan. She has a loose and cheerful personality and doesn't focus on difficult problems, but she's a caring mother who always puts her family first. She's said to have disappeared 12 years ago along with her husband Timothy.
Aki means 'autumn'.
*Derek Kairos/Tamotsu Tokio (時尾 保)Uncle of Ethan. (younger brother of Timothy). A free-lance writer engaged in chasing the long-ago incident. He's brusque, but has a serious disposition. Although it seems he didn't get along well with his older brother, he took Ethan in after Timothy and Pamela disappeared. At the end of the game, he marries Kori Twelves, whom his future self rescued after finding out about her.
Derek's Japanese name means 'to preserve time' (toki o tamotsu).
*Sox/Follow (フォ郎)Ethan's pet cat, who is attached to Ethan, and often sleeps on his bed. He moves lazily and has an idiosyncratic-sounding meow, "bunya".
He is seen very frequently at nearly all the locations in the game, and will restore a little energy to Ethan's Hollow Pen with small energy stones that he finds.
'Forou' can also be pronounced as 'Horou' (Hollow).
Minor characters
*Irving Onegin/Seisaku Ichiyanagi (一柳 清作)Owner of an antique shop. The main antagonist, he is also an owner of a Hollow Pen, passed down from his mother, Mary Onegin. He was the one who pushed Kori Twelves off Ethan's school building 19 years ago.
*Kori Twelves/Kanon Jūnibayashi (十二林 かのん)A girl who is first introduced as Ethan's classmate who 'appeared in class one day'. It is later revealed that she is from 19 years ago, and was pushed off the school building by Irving Onegin, but was pulled to the future by Timothy Kairos. When she is finally 'back' in her own time, she marries Derek Kairos and they own the local cafe Chronos together. Their daughter, whose appearance is almost completely identical to Kori, makes an appearance in the final animation as a current student at Ethan's school, as well as being (this was also implied by Ashley's dialogue during the epilogue chapter) a friend of both Ashley and Emily.
*Mary Onegin/Naoko Ichiyanagi (一柳)Irving Onegin's mother. Owned a Hollow Pen, tried to stop Irving from killing Kori Twelves multiple times but failed, and sent a note to herself in the past to commit suicide in a bus accident.
*Jack Twombly/Sakutarou Ninomiya (二宮 朔太郎)Ethan's Homeroom Teacher, who occasionally gives mini quizzes to Ethan when they cross paths. Was also at one point in time Derek Kairos's Homeroom Teacher. At one point in time, Irving Onegin took the place of Jack Twombly, presumably killing the real Jack Twombly.
*Vin Threet/Motoki Mihara (三原 元樹)Ethan's good friend. Used to be in the basketball club, but quit due to an old injury. Ashley Threet is his younger sister, whom he is very proud of.
*Ashley Threet/Waori Mihara (三原 和織)Vin's younger sister, a freshman at Ethan's high school. A very energetic girl, she is good friends with Emily Niner.
*Ben Fourier/Shunta Shidou (四堂 駿太)Ethan's good friend. Kind of a cowardly guy. Likes pancakes and pretty girls. Used to have a crush on Olivia Eights, and gets involved in incidents with Aaron Seven, Olivia's boyfriend in certain flashbacks.
*Morris Fivet/Nagi Goshima (五島 凪)Ethan's good friend. A very studious fellow. Also likes dogs. After Ethan prevents the dog that he and his friends owned in the past from being struck by lightning, Morris drops out of school and becomes a part-time pet-caretaker.
*Eva Sixon/Kotoko Rokujou (六条 琴子)Owner of the local coffee shop Chronos, in the time where Derek Kairos gave up ownership of the cafe.
*Aaron Seven/Ryūnosuke Nanasawa (七沢 竜之介)Olivia's boyfriend. Ben Fourier doesn't like him much, and gets involved in incidents in certain flashbacks.
*Olivia Eights/Mayu Yagi (八木 まゆ)Works part-time at the coffee shop. Ben Fourier had a crush on her. Was once crushed by a refrigerator on her way home in a flashback, but it was prevented by Ethan.
*Emily Niner/Sachiko Kuri (九里 祥子)*Ashley's close friend. She is into fortune telling.
*Sara Tenneson/Sonoka Tokura (十倉 想乃香)Receptionist at the local library. Ethan visits her frequently throughout the game to get information and past newspaper articles.
*Jacob Eleven/Arata Jūichitani (十一谷 新)A young boy who enjoys walking his dog, Lucky (John in the Japanese version). Witnessed a few incidents in a few flashbacks.
