James Tierney (footballer)

James 'Sorry' Tierney was an Australian rules footballer who played in the SAFA and SAFL, mainly with West Adelaide.

Tierney had three stints at West Adelaide, the first in 1901 and 1902, then in 1904 before returning to be a member of their 1908 and 1909 premiership sides. During his time at West Adelaide he partnered Tom Leahy in the ruck with great success, winning a Magarey Medal in 1908 to become the first player from the club to win the award. He also played with West Torrens in 1903, South Adelaide in 1905 and 1906 and at North Adelaide in 1911. A regular South Australian interstate representative, he appeared in a total of nine games for his state.
