Can't You See That She's Mine

Can't You See That She's Mine

"Can't You See That She's Mine" was the fourth single released in the United States by the Dave Clark Five. Written by Dave Clark and Mike Smith, it reached #4 on the Billboard 100 charts for the week of July 18, 1964. (1)

The song is somewhat unusual for British Invasion bands, in that it does not contain any guitar. The verses of the song include only electric organ, bass, and drums, with an 8-bar saxophone solo in the middle. The melody is also unusual, featuring a flatted 3d note (an E-flat note in the key of C) on the first beat of the first through third and fifth through seventh bars in the 8-bar verses. Usually songs in the key of C do not feature any flatted notes. The middle four bars start with the lyric "People talk and try to break us up. Well we know they don't understand", which is a direct lift from the 1960 Ray Charles song "Sticks And Stones".
