Peterston-super-Ely

Peterston-super-Ely

Peterston-super-Ely ( _cy. Llanbedr-y-fro) is a small village situated about eight miles from the centre of Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.

History and amenities

As its name suggests, the village lies on the River Ely, on the other side of which is the Coryton estate, and the local parish church (in heavily restored simple Perpendicular style) is dedicated to Saint Peter. There are small remains of a castle.

Peterston-super-Ely is the primary outdoor filming location for the Welsh-language soap opera, "Pobol y Cwm".

The village holds an annual arts festival.

Famous inhabitants

The former politician and European Commissioner Neil Kinnock is an inhabitant of the village.
