World Airways Flight 30

World Airways Flight 30 was a DC-10 airplane flying from Newark International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport (KBOS) in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 23, 1982. The plane crashed into shallow water at the end of Logan runway 15R following a landing too far down the runway (2800 feet past the threshold). Two out of 200 passengers died, and the crew survived. The airplane was written off after the incident.

While a landing that far down the runway would have been acceptable under normal measures, the runway was ice-covered at the time. As a result, the pilots took action and steered the plane into the water at the end of the runway rather than hit the approach lights.
