History

WGLD was originally known as WGCB AM, and was owned by John Harden Norris, who founded the station in 1950. In 1964, Norris went on a 15 minute diatribe against journalist Fred Cook. Cook, under Fairness Doctrine rules, requested a chance to rebut, and Norris refused, claiming the doctrine to be unconstitutional. A lawsuit ensued, which Cook ultimately won.

The WGLD call signs were previously heard at 104.5 FM in Indianapolis (now WJJK) and at 100.3 FM in Greensboro (now WVBZ).
