Almedia is a census-designated place (CDP) in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,056 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bloomsburg–Berwick Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Almedia is located at coor dms|41|0|56|N|76|23|5|W|city (41.015556, -76.384814)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (21.25%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,056 people, 467 households, and 335 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,679.2 people per square mile (647.2/km²). There were 480 housing units at an average density of 763.3/sq mi (294.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.39% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.28% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.09% of the population.

There were 467 households out of which 25.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.67.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 18.4% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 29.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,403, and the median income for a family was $46,250. Males had a median income of $29,830 versus $27,083 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $18,262. About 4.4% of families and 7.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.0% of those under age 18 and 2.9% of those age 65 or over.
