Eiterå

Eiterå [ei`terå] (Rana in Norway), also called Eiteråga [e`iterå:ga] , is the name of both a river and a small village in Dunderlandsdal, 7 km north of Storforshei, in Rana municipality, Norway. European route E6 pass through the small village.

The primary industry is mainly farming. 4 km north of the outlet of the river Eiteråa into Ranelva, «Stjernen Art and Silver Gallery» is producing pieces of jewellery from silver and precious stones, and also applied art.

The river name may mean «the cold river», from Old Norse «eitr». Crf Norwegian «eitrende kald». The name may also be derived from Proto-Germanic "*aitra-", «something welling forwards».

The river has its source in between the mountains "Bomfjellet" and "Ørtfjellet".

The area was cleared for farming in 1723. Originally, the village had two farms. Since 1749 the village have been centered around four farms, more or less equal in size. The farms were regulated by the Norwegian state in 1925.
