Peter Anton Kreusser

Peter Anton Kreusser (1765-1831) was a German composer.

Biography

Claiming to be of Swabian aristocrat stock he was born in Lengfurt near Wurzberg in Bavaria. He began the Anglo-Bavarian branch to the Kreusser [Kreũβer] family when he married Anne Rickets in London.

As the younger cousin of the composer George Anton Kreusser, who was friend and collaborator of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart [The Viennese Violinist HAAS 1948 XXXIV:15-27 Franz Clement] Peter followed George to Paris, where he served as a violinist in Mozart's Symphony Orchestra Kõnigle Kapellehof. The French Revolution brought him to London, where his career as a composer began.

During his time in London he lived at 44 Greek Street. [Musikantiquariat Katzbichler] . He formed a close association the Wornum family that extended over two generations and resulted in the Sickert family coming to live in England. In 1823 he returned to Munich, where Maximilian II of Bavaria ennobled him and all of his issue.

Compositions

He wrote many romantic airs, divertimenti, sonatas and dances for the piano forte. [Listed in 1796 with the Stationer's Hall and in English Keyboard Art, publishing compositions for the piano.] . Much of his catalogue was dedicated to friends and associate, amongst them were Emily Huskisson wife of William Huskisson. Sixteen published composition or arrangements by him are listed in the British Library Catalog. Family

His daughter Emillia by Elizabeth Landry; married the Italian Count Londron. His grandson by his son Francis, Ralph von Kreusser, was to become the tutor to Prince Rupprect of Bavaria [ [http://www.jacobite.ca/kings/rupert.htm The Jacobite Heritage link mentioning Ralph von Kreusser] ] and Anne who became the wife of Edward Onslow Ford.
