London Buses route ELC is a London Underground rail replacement service for the East London Line in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Travel London. The service does not accept TfL bus tickets, bus passes or any on board payments.

History

The route was introduced on 23 December 2007 as a replacement for the East London Line, running between Canada Water and New Cross Gate, along with Route ELP (Rotherhithe - Canada Water) and Route ELW (Whitechapel - Shadwell - Wapping), in addition to Route ELS (Whitechapel - Shoreditch "Bethnal Green Road") which had been running since the closure of Shoreditch Station. The route initially ran every 8 to 10 minutes (every 5 minutes during peak times) using a mixture of Travel London's own buses, and some hired from Metroline. The services were re-structured on 24 February 2008, with the withdrawal of the little used route ELP and a frequency reduction on the ELC to every 15 minutes at weekends. The ELP was replaced by an extra bus on the existing route 381 between Canada Water and Bermondsey stations. A further frequency reduction took place on the 21 July 2008, this time the Monday to Friday peak frequency was reduced from every 5 minutes to every 10 minutes. The PVR decreased from 10 to 6 buses.
