Career

Early career

Born in Reading, Bartley started his career at hometown club Reading before moving to Burnham, where he played with his two brothers.[2]

A.F.C Bournemouth

In the summer of 2007 Bartley signed a professional contract with Bournemouth. Prior to signing with Bournemouth, he was working as a window fitter in Caversham.[3]

In December 2010 it was revealed that Bartley was subject of interest from Leeds United and Leicester City [4][5]

Burnley

On 31 January 2011 Burnley submitted a bid believed to be in the region of £310,000. AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell had said that no Bournemouth players were leaving in the January transfer window but Bartley gave him no choice but to accept the bid from Burnley after refusing to play for Bournemouth again if the bid was rejected.[6] The move meant Bartley would link up with former boss Eddie Howe who had left AFC Bournemouth weeks before.[5][7][8]
