Ring bit

Ring bit

A ring bit is a bit (horse) in the form of a ring passed through the mouth and encircling the lower jaw. Formerly its use was widespread among cowboys in western North America [Rollins 1922, page 149] and its use continues today in Quarter Horse racing in New Mexico.
