Bulgaria thema was a Byzantine theme established by emperor Basil II after the defeat over Samuel of Bulgaria(1014-1018 AD).It was based on the wider regions of Skopje and Ohrid [Byzantium in the Year 1000 - Page 126 [http://books.google.com/books?id=CSZQ-VPFKoMC&pg=PA126&dq=thema+of+Bulgaria,+based+on+Skopje+and+Ohrid&sig=pRJW-ezX7rXjU_28jdvhJ2H60ik] by Paul Magdalino] (modern Republic of Macedonia and south Serbia).Its capital was in Skopje and was governed by a strategos. After 150 years Bulgarian kingdom was restored, with the rebellion of the brothers Peter and Asen in 1185 AD.
