Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia or ERIA is a policy think tank proposed by Japan arising out of the East Asia Summit, proposed at the Second EAS and approved at the Third EAS [ [http://www.aseansec.org/21127.htm Chairman's Statement of the 3rd East Asia Summit Singapore, 21 November 2007] ] .

History

Until its own administration is established the ERIA will be located with the ASEAN secretariat.

Comprehensive Economic Partnership in East-Asia

The ERIA is tasked with reviewing the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership in East-Asia or CEPEA, the Japanese proposed trade bloc involving the 16 nations of the East Asia Summit [ [http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0803/S00068.htm Japanese Economists To Address NZ Business Leaders] ] . It was decided at the Third EAS that the ERIA report on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership in East-Asia would be received at the Fourth EAS.
