Tytsjerk (Dutch: Tietjerk ) is a small village in Tytsjerksteradiel in the province Friesland of the Netherlands. It had a population of 1539 on December 31, 2007.[1]

History

In the Middle Ages the village was called Thiakerka or Tiakerka. That would refer to a saint named Thialdus, Titus, Thialda or Titia. It may have been the capital of the grietenij, The name of the current municipal Tytsjerksteradiel indicates there on. The foundations of the church can be seen that thechurch between 1200 and 1300 already has been. in a church certificate is the village in 1328 already mentioned. In 1720 the foundations for thecontemporary church placed. the church bell which dates from 1608 is at war been to Germany to be melted to bullets and bombs, but is returned. The clock has once hung in a belfry but depends already two centuries in the tower of the church.

Bosk fan Ypey

Near the village is park Vijversburg, Also known as the bosk fan Ypey. this was earlier held from the rich families Looxma and Ypey, later it became property from The Foundation on Toutenburch. The park is laid out by the landscape architect Roodbaard.
