Geography

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Kashipur community development bloc had a total population of 186, 980 of which 95,259 were males and 91,721 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 11.75% for Kashipur, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%. Politics

Rabindranath Hembram of CPI(M) has won the Kashipur assembly, reserved for scheduled castes, thrice in a row, defeating his nearest rivals Anath Bandhu Patar of All India Trinamool Congress in 2006, Buddheswar Saen of AITC in 2001, Subhas Chandra Patar of Indian National Congress in 1996. Surendranath Majhi of CPI(M) defeated Nandalal Saren of INC in 1991, Anil Baraan Murmu of INC in 1987, Subhash Chandra Patar of INC in 1982, and Rampada Majhi of INC in 1977. [cite web
