Vehicle registration plates of Luxembourg

License plates in Luxembourg consist of a maximum of six characters, in any of the following patterns: two letters and four digits (XY 1234), one letter and four digits (P 1234), five digits (12345) or four digits (1234). They have yellow background, and they have nowadays the standard EU stripe.

Older license plates use the format XY 123, but such license plates are no longer being issued, and are therefore gradually taken out of use. These have a large EU flag without a country code.
