Olds is a town in central Alberta, Canada surrounded by Mountain View County. It is located 61 km (38 mi) south of Red Deer, the nearest city, and 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Calgary. The nearest towns are Didsbury to the south and Bowden to the north.

The town is located along Alberta Highway 2A, west of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. The Canadian Pacific Railway's main Edmonton-Calgary line runs through the town.

Olds is home to a big box retail area that opened in 2008. It features a Wal-Mart and other major retailers. Olds is also home to Olds College, which is noted for its agricultural and fashion programs.^[2]

Demographics

In 2006, Olds had a population of 7,248 living in 3,190 dwellings, a 9.7% increase from 2001. The town has a land area of 11.05 km² (4.27 sq mi) and a population density of 656.1 /km² (1,699 /sq mi).^[1]
