The club was formed in 1969 [cite web |url=http://www.affanecappoquingaa.com/club_history.htm |title= Club History, briefly|accessdate=2008-04-06] with the merging of Affane GAA and Cappoquinn GAA. At present, the team is called Cappoquinn when playing hurling and Affane when playing gaelic football.
