Irish Champion Stakes

__NOTOC__The Irish Champion Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2,012 metres) at Leopardstown Racecourse, and it takes place annually in September.

It was first run in 1976 and was originally titled the Joe McGrath Memorial Stakes. In 1984 this was changed to the Phoenix Champion Stakes. The present title was introduced when the race moved from Phoenix Park to nearby Leopardstown in 1991. This followed the closure of its former venue.
