Irish St. Leger

__NOTOC__The Irish St. Leger is a Group 1 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs (2,816 metres) at the Curragh, and it takes place annually in September.

Modelled on the English St. Leger Stakes, the race was first run in 1915 and originally contested by three-year-olds only. It was opened up to older horses in 1983. It has been sponsored by "The Irish Field" newspaper since 2003.

There is presently a bonus prize of AUD $500,000 offered to any winner who subsequently wins the Melbourne Cup in the same year.
