Oak Point is a city in Denton County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,747 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Oak Point is located at 33°10′56″N 96°59′43″W / 33.18222°N 96.99528°W / 33.18222; -96.99528 (33.182353, -96.995192)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15 km2), of which, 5.7 square miles (15 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (4.04%) is water.

It is 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Dallas.[4]

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,747 people, 600 households, and 498 families residing in the city. The population density was 306.7 people per square mile (118.3/km²). There were 640 housing units at an average density of 112.3 per square mile (43.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.53% White, 1.03% African American, 0.74% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 2.35% from other races, and 2.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.27% of the population.

There were 600 households out of which 42.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.5% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.0% were non-families. 13.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.22.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 36.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $79,180, and the median income for a family was $89,464. Males had a median income of $60,379 versus $37,031 for females. The per capita income for the city was $34,266. About 0.6% of families and 1.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.0% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

Government and infrastructure

In 2007 Oak Point, on a 3-2 vote, passed an ordinance that declared the English language as the town's sole official language.[4]

Education

The Town of Oak Point is served by the Little Elm and Denton Independent School Districts.
