George Young (rock musician)

George Redburn Young (born 6 November 1947 in Cranhill, Glasgow, Scotland) is an Australian rock musician, songwriter and record producer, best-known as the co-writer of the international hits, "Friday On My Mind" and "Love is in the Air"; and for his production of the hard rock band, AC/DC, which features his younger brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.

Career

Born in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland, Young's father's name was William, and his mother's name was Margaret (her maiden name also being Young); they emigrated to Australia in 1963. His older brother Alex was later a member of the group Grapefruit.

Starting his career in Sydney, George Young first achieved international success in the 1960s as the rhythm guitarist in the band The Easybeats; Young co-wrote nearly all of their songs, first with singer Stevie Wright, then later with lead guitarist, Harry Vanda.

After the band dissolved, Vanda & Young concentrated on writing and producing pop and rock songs for other recording artists, and under various stage names. One such recording studio based group was their own 'Marcus Hook Roll Band', with brothers, Malcolm and Angus; and Vanda.

With Vanda, he co-produced AC/DC's early albums, such as "Powerage" and "High Voltage", and played as AC/DC's bass guitarist for a short stint, early in their career. He produced AC/DC's 2000 album "Stiff Upper Lip".
