Spring Valley Village (formerly Spring Valley) is a city in Harris County, Texas, USA. The population was 3,611 at the 2000 census.

The United States Postal Service uses "Houston" for all Spring Valley Village addresses; "Spring Valley Village" is not an acceptable city designation for mail addressed to places in Spring Valley Village [http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp] .

History

In 1936 state highway maps indicated a cemetery and a church. Initially the settlement consisted of one and one-half square miles.Handbook of Texas|id=SS/hgs14|name=Spring Valley, Texas]

In the mid-1950s, effort to form a Spring Branch municipality failed.Handbook of Texas|id=SS/hrsrj|name=Spring Branch, Texas] The city incorporated in 1955. In 1960 the city had 3,004 residents and two businesses. The city had 3,800 residents in 1976 and 3,392 residents in 1990.

Spring Valley Village is located at coor dms|29|47|23|N|95|30|17|W|city (29.789727, -95.504774)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 3,611 people, 1,365 households, and 1,079 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,755.0 people per square mile (1,064.3/km²). There were 1,410 housing units at an average density of 1,075.7/sq mi (415.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.79% White, 0.33% African American, 0.50% Native American, 2.96% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.32% of the population.

There were 1,365 households out of which 39.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% were non-families. 18.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the city the population was spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 2.4% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $96,392, and the median income for a family was $109,020. Males had a median income of $86,963 versus $45,977 for females. The per capita income for the city was $44,912. About 1.8% of families and 2.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 1.6% of those age 65 or over.

As of 2006 the mayor of Spring Valley Village is Mike Andrews. Timothy P. Glanzman, Greg Herbst, Timothy R. Conroy, Bruce Spain, and Tom J. Trammell currently serve as members of the city council.

Spring Valley Village is located in District 136 of the Texas House of Representatives. As of 2008 Beverly Woolley represents the district.
