Tivoli, Ljubljana

Tivoli, Ljubljana

Tivoli is the largest park in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is located on the outskirts of the central district, stretching to Šiška district to the north, Vič to the south and Rožnik to the west. The park was laid out during the French imperial administration of Ljubljana in 1813 and named after the Parisian Jardins de Tivoli. In the 1920s, it was renovated by the famous Slovene architect Jože Plečnik, who designed the Jakopič Promenade that runs through the park, creating a linear visual axis going from the Tivoli Castle through Cankar and Čop Street to the Prešeren Square, over the Triple bridge, ending in the Ljubljana Castle.

Several important buildings stand in the Park, among them the Tivoli Castle, the Slovenian National Museum of Contemporary History, the Tivoli Sport Hall and others.
