Wind energy

Roscoe has become a pioneer in wind energy as it begins construction of the largest wind farm in the United States, and one of the largest in the world. E.ON Climate & Renewables North America (formerly Airtricity) is spending more than $1 billion to install 640 windmills around Roscoe that will generate 800 megawatts, enough to power 265,000 homes. A landowner can earn between $5,000 and $15,000 per windmill per year. [ [http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16658695 Window of Change Blow into Roscoe, Texas] , John Burnett, "NPR", November 27, 2007.] The electricity generated is essentially pollution-free. A coal-fired plant producing the same power would annually create 2 million tons of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
