"There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis" was Kirsty MacColl's first hit single, charting in the UK at #14 in 1981, and remaining in the charts for nine weeks. [cite web| title = freeworld - Kirsty MacColl: singles| url = http://kirstymaccoll.com/music/singles/index.htm| accessdate = 2008-03-24] It reached #9 in the Irish charts. A promotional version was released in the USA which referenced a truck stop as opposed to the very British chip shop, but this was only available to DJs and did not get a full release.
