Karlsson Spools

Karlsson Spools AB is a Swedish-based manufacturer of spools for hydraulic valves that are used in hydraulic machinery. More specifically, the spools are part of directional control valves where the spool slides inside a housing to route hydraulic fluid to mechanical components. Some examples of equipment that use hydraulic machinery are: Excavators, forklifts and machinery used for logging.

The company manufactures spools in sizes ranging between 25-400 mm (1”-16”) length and diameters between 5-50 mm (.120”-2”). Tolerances of + 0.00075 mm (.000030”) can be obtained. The production line includes a range of steps including CNC turning, milling machines, coining, deburring, induction heat treatment and plating. However the tolerances are achieved mainly by means of high-precision grinding machines. [CadQNews, feb 2005]

Karlsson Spools produces approximately 4 million spools per year to customers in Europe, the USA, Asia and South America. The company was established in 1955, as “Åke Karlsson Mekaniska AB”. Since 1988 is belongs to the Grimaldi Industri Group.
