Neural Field Theory

Neural Field Theory

Neural Field Theories describe the spatio-temporal evolution of variables such as mean firing rate. The central idea is to take the density of neurons to the continuum limit, resulting in spatially continuous neural networks. Models based on these principles have been used to investigate visual hallucinations [Bressloff, P. C., and Cowan, J. D. Spontaneous pattern formation in primary visual cortex] , EEG rhythms, mechanisms for short term memory and motion perception.
