Eggplant is a greyish-purple color that resembles eggplants. [ Mish, Frederic C., Editor in Chief "Webster's Tenth New Collegiate Dictionary" Springfield, Massachuetts, U.S.A.:1994--Merriam-Webster Page 369 ] The color shown in the color box as "eggplant" was introduced by Crayola in 1998.

An eggplant, usually thought of as a vegetable, is actually a fruit, some of which are this color. However, other varieties of eggplant may range from indigo to white. Chinese eggplant are colored a dark violet color.
