__NOTOC__The Rev. M.L. Latta House was a historic home located in the Oberlin neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was the last remaining building from Latta University, a trade school for African-Americans that operated from 1892 until 1920.cite web| last=| first=| title="African American History" | work=| publisher=National Park Service| date=| url=http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/raleigh/africanamericanhistory.htm | accessdate=2008-03-29] The house was named after Morgan London Latta, a former slave who graduated from Shaw University after the Civil War. He founded Latta University to educate freedmen and orphans in Raleigh's African-American community and built the campus next to his house.cite web| last=Wallace | first=Kamal | title="Remnant of Raleigh's Past to Benefit From Today's Music" | work=| publisher="The News & Observer"| date=1998-06-29 | url=http://lnweb02.co.wake.nc.us/WEB/HISTPRES.NSF/aac7d56ca8fd884b852563be00610639/db0e6e2ea3d031ef852566320051da58!OpenDocument | accessdate=2008-03-29] The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Raleigh Historic Landmark. On January 8, 2007, a fire destroyed the home, leaving only the manmade brick foundation.cite web| last=Lamb | first=Amanda | title="Fire Ravages Historic Latta House" | work=| publisher=WRAL-TV | date=2007-01-08| url=http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/1129928/ | accessdate=2007-01-08] cite web| last=McDonald | first=Thomasi | title="Fire Destroys Latta House" | work=| publisher="The News & Observer" | date=2007-01-07| url=http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/530182.html | accessdate=2008-03-29] Before the fire, plans had been made by The Latta House Foundation to turn the home into a cultural center.cite web| last= | first= | title="Fire Destroys Latta House" | work=| publisher=WTVD | date=2007-01-08| url=http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=triangle&id=4914637 | accessdate=2007-01-08] After the fire, the property owner gave the land to the city of Raleigh for use as a park.cite web| last=Locke | first=Mandy | title="Progress Eats Into History" | work=| publisher="The News & Observer" | date=2008-03-09| url=http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/990493.html | accessdate=2008-03-29]
