Benjamin–Bona–Mahony equation

The Benjamin–Bona–Mahony equation (or BBM equation) is the partial differential equation

:u_t+u_x+uu_x-u_{xxt}=0.,

This equation was introduced in harvs| author1-link=Brooke Benjamin|first= T. B. |last=Benjamin|first2= J. L.|last2= Bona |first3=J. J.|last3= Mahony|year=1972 as an improvement of the KdV equation for modeling long waves of small amplitude in 1+1 dimensions.

A higher-dimensional version is given by

:u_t- abla^2u_t+operatorname{div},varphi(u)=0.,

where phi is a fixed smooth function from mathbb R to mathbb R^n. harvtxt|Avrin|Goldstein|1985 proved local existence of a solution in all dimensions.
