Hassayampa River

The Hassayampa River (Yavapai: Hasyambo [cite |author=William Alan Shaterian |title=Phonology and Dictionary of Yavapai |publisher=University of California at Berkeley |date=1983 ] ) is a mostly underground river in Arizona, near Wickenburg. Within the Hassayampa River Canyon Wilderness, however, the river flows above-ground. [cite web |url=http://gosw.about.com/od/bestsightstosee/a/hassayampa.htm |title=Hassayampa River Preserve - Wickenburg, Arizona |accessdate=2008-04-02 |author=Elizabeth Mitchell] A local legend purports that anyone who drinks from the river can never again tell the truth.
